| An important exhibition of French art, organized by Messrs. Marcel Bernheim et Cie, will open next spring in Tokio. Alongside the works of the lost masters, whose influence on the evolution of our painting has been predominant for the last thirty years - Manet, Cezanne, Renoir, Pissaro, Sisley, Degas, Lautrec, Gauguin, Carrière, O Redon - this exhibition will endeavor to present as complete a picture as possible of the present state of our art, and the Japanese amateurs will find there assembled with paintings by Mrs Agutte and Marval, Messrs. Aman-Jean, Asselin, Bonnard, Camoin, Carrera, Charlot, Charreton, Cottet, Dauchez, Maurice Denis, Dezire, of Espagnat, Flandrin, Fraye, Girieud, Ch Guerin, Guiguet, Henri-Martin, Laprade, Lebasque, Lebourg , The Sidaner, Malherbe, Manguin, Manzana-Pizzarro, Jean Marchand, Marquet, Menard, Ottmann, Picard-Ledoux, Quost, Claude Rameau, KX Roussel, Urbain, Utrillo, Vallotton, Valtat, Vlaminck, Vuillard, H. de Waroquier, Zingg, etc. (...)
While for more than two centuries we have been collecting Far Eastern curiosities, this is the first time an initiative of this kind has been made in Japan; it will be interesting to follow the results and to observe the lessons that, in their turn, will be able to draw the artists from there. |
