| The Foraiziennes and Vellaves friendships, in taking on the very laudable initiative of organizing an exhibition of modern painting in Saint Etienne, could not appeal, to guide their choice and direct their efforts, to a personality more highly informed and more notoriously competent than is that of Mr. Gabriel Mourey.....
Pierre Girieud's entry is one of the finest in this exhibition. Landscapes and portraits are truly very representative elements of his great pictorial work. The portrait of the painter by himself seems to come from one of those solid and vast compositions in which the sumptuous and plastic imagination of this organizer delights. His landscapes, of such transparent consistency, are the fruit of an emotion nourished by the ardent love of nature and the continuous joy of direct contact. The choice of the right detail always serves to exalt the virtue of the whole, and the painter's paste, which manages to rise in the skies at its maximum intensity, has the lasting and lustrous charm of enamel. ..
