It is permissible to deny to the painters who contributed to the work of this second Salon de Mai the qualities of pleasantness, the desire to please; we cannot deny that they are all possessed by the firm and healthy will to create an artistic work and to show a personality at a time when it seems that Art is no longer anything but a routine and a question of imitation, almost plagiarism. We must also refer to what the organizers wrote at the top of their program: "This Salon was founded, quietly, but with so much awareness and fervor, only to encourage, call a painter, help when it hatches". For those who haven't seen or didn't want to see, I would say that the important thing about this Salon is that it is both a means of manifestation for contemporary painters and a tribute to tradition. ..... What you have to like about Pierre Girieud is his mental balance. His work and an abundant culture helped him to compose a philosophy of things that he defines with a quiet brush. His Sapho at Leucate is an intellectual painting that denotes a voluptuous person. But I have a better taste of its Provençal landscape, where the plans are ordered with the same wisdom as in nature and where the sky and the earth throb with a majestic communion...
