It is a convenient way to introduce some clarity into the facts. Where is the current landscape going? In reaction to Impressionism, as we have said, it no longer cares to paint the atmosphere, it is disinterested in all truth which is only momentary. It aims at synthesis, it claims to make the general and permanent aspect of the grounds and the trees, their construction, their eternal logic even more than the accidents of the light which are played on the surface. He sticks to the local tone; he wants to release averages. A series of beautiful artists work in this direction and their works have qualities of intelligence which perhaps exceed their sensitive qualities.
